Eric was often recruited and promoted into startup and restructuring roles for his team building and change management acumen, which he also used in the startup and operation of his own ventures. Eric's CPA and MBA background are the foundation of his expertise and experience, but having started, owned, and operated companies, and grown up with responsibilities in an extended family business, his approach is always from the forward-looking perspective of the operator. Eric has been the Founder and President of several business startups, including; an area developer / multi-unit restaurant business, where he put together a multi-function team, grew the business to $60 million peak sales over ten years, and sold to a NYSE-listed private equity group; and a specialty securities dealer that he quickly grew, and merged with a TSX-listed regional investment broker-dealer; Eric was also recruited by a large international bank (NYSE, TSX) to startup their real estate investment banking subsidiary, serving as President and member of the Board of Directors. As co-founder of a fifth startup, he served as EVP, CFO of a private investment company formed to acquire an international garment manufacturing & retail company, $50 million sales, subsequently sold.
Eric served in a variety of roles with private and public companies, including as CFO and EVP, of a Fortune 500 NYSE, TSX listed management company and its subsidiary petroleum refining and marketing company acquired out of Chapter 11. In the CFO, VP Finance & Administration role he led the restructuring of accounting, IT, treasury, legal, HR and corporate development, to greatly improve support and services to operations. Subsequently, in the newly created position Executive Vice President, Refining, he led the restructuring of three separate divisions; refineries, wholesale marketing & terminals, and supply & trading, into one cohesive refining business unit, to greatly improve productivity and profitability.
The early years of Eric's career were primarily deal/transaction focused, with executive and senior management positions in investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate development. In such roles, Eric was registered as an officer with the Investment Dealers Association of Canada and the Toronto Stock Exchange; and registered as the authorized official under Real Estate and Business Brokers Acts of Manitoba and Ontario, Canada.
Eric is a CPA, having articled with Ernst & Young (Clarkson Gordon). Eric earned his Master of Business Administration, Finance and Accounting, from DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, Ontario, and his Bachelor of Arts, Economics from the University of Manitoba. Eric is a Certified Director, UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management, Los Angeles.
